About Southern Rhode Island AHEC
Who We Are:
The Southern Rhode Island Area Health Education Center (sriAHEC) is one of three AHECs in Rhode Island, and is part of the National Area Health Education Center Organization (NAO) which focuses on increasing the diversity of health practitioners and improving primary and preventive health-care in underserved communities. Since the summer of 2009, sriAHEC has been hosted by the College of Nursing (CON) at the University of Rhode Island – an affiliation that resulted from a grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) submitted by Dayle Joseph, Dean of the CON, and former Associate Dean Laurie Lauzon Clabo.
Our Center’s Mission:
Expand the supply of a high quality, culturally competent health-care workforce; collaborate with community partners to address health-care disparities in the southern regions of RI; recruit, and provide training support to students as they progress through their academic careers.
